Alexandria, Virginia, September 30, 2013 – The Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition® (EICC®) today released its fifth annual report, reflecting on its progress on programs designed to help its member companies improve social and environmental conditions in their own operations and those of their supply chains. The report also announces significant governance changes crafted in 2012, several of which began to take affect in 2013. Click here to download the report.
“Two thousand twelve was a remarkable year for the EICC. It marked the beginning of important transitions aimed at advancing our mission and improving our impact to foster a more responsible and sustainable electronics industry,” said John Gabriel, 2012 Chairman of the Board.
“The EICC’s programs, growing membership and new staff [in 2013] all point to a very bright future. I look forward to working with our members, stakeholders and staff as we chart our course into the future,” noted Tim Mohin, 2013 Chairman of the Board.
The report describes the key governance changes that occurred in 2012, and offers insight to the EICC’s work via the lens of their three strategic objectives: develop supply chain capabilities; collaborate on key issues; and engage external stakeholders.
“This report offers a good chance to look back, reflect – and prepare for the future. We value our progress in 2012, and are now eagerly moving forward with our governance shift that brings new energy into our organization and our programs,” said Robert Lederer, the first executive director of the EICC.
Key milestones of 2012 noted in the report include the hiring of the EICC’s first executive director, completion of the first full year for the Membership Compliance Program and progress on several programs on topics including working hours, conflict minerals, transparency, the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights and carbon and water use in operations. Also notable in 2012 was a collaborative roundtable event in Amsterdam with representatives from the EICC and member companies, civil society and trade union groups on worker rights.
