RBA Chemical Management Leadership Program (CMLP)

An industry-led, voluntary commitment program to drive the adoption of best practices in responsible chemical management throughout the global electronics production supply chain.

To harmonize industry efforts and accelerate the adoption of responsible chemical management practices within the electronics production sector, the RBA developed the Chemical Management Leadership Program (CMLP) in consultation with its members and stakeholders to be an inclusive, scalable, and practical commitment program with a focus on achieving the possible. The CMLP is a voluntary commitment program with a standardized chemical management due diligence process that enables companies to demonstrate their commitment to responsible business conduct through enhanced transparency, industry collective action, and continuous improvement. Through establishing and facilitating this program, the RBA seeks to promote the sound management of chemicals toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and advance implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC).

Participation

Participation in the CMLP is voluntary and open to all companies in the electronics production sector. In becoming CMLP Participants, companies must choose one of two participation options described below and commit to implementing applicable actions.

  • Catalyst in Responsible Chemical Management: The Catalyst participation pathway enables companies to adopt the program’s harmonized chemical management due diligence process and contribute towards collective action with minimal resources.
  • Leader in Responsible Chemical Management: The Leader participation pathway enables companies to spearhead industry adoption of the program’s harmonized chemical management due diligence process through a more rigorous implementation approach that entails third-party verifications conducted by independent, third-party CMLP Conformance Assessors.

Recognition

With participants’ permissions, the RBA will publicly recognize companies that have committed to CMLP participation and have implemented all applicable actions of either participation pathway on this webpage. To maintain these designations, participants must annually maintain their implementation of all applicable actions following initial implementation.

  • Catalyst: Participants that successfully implement all actions of the Catalyst pathway via self-attestation will attain this designation.
  • Leader: Participants that successfully implement all actions of the Leader pathway via third-party verifications will attain this designation.

The development of this program was enabled by industry collaboration among RBA members, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders, including consultation with the Clean Electronics Production Network (CEPN). It was inspired by industry voluntary commitment programs such as the CEPN’s Toward Zero Exposure program.
