RBA's New Waste Minimization Toolkit

The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) has developed a Waste Minimization Toolkit that includes a Waste Tracking Record Tool and a video learning module that aims to promote and enable responsible waste minimization practices across electronics industry supply chains. The Waste Minimization Toolkit will be available in the RBA’s e-Learning Academy in December, where it will be accessible to all RBA members and their suppliers.

The Waste Minimization Toolkit was developed by the RBA in collaboration with numerous members primarily to support compliance with RBA Code of Conduct Solid Waste provisions. The Toolkit will help RBA members and their suppliers to systematically identify, manage, reduce, and responsibly dispose of or recycle solid waste to mitigate environmental impacts and contribute toward a circular economy.

Earlier this year, the RBA surveyed its Environmental Sustainability Working Group (ESWG) and learned that members saw value in the development of standardized supply chain tools to support industry-wide approaches to addressing environmental issues. With the support of three members – Amazon, Apple and Google  – the RBA developed the Waste Minimization Toolkit to meet this need in the waste management space in consultation with the RBA’s ESWG and newly formed Circularity & Waste Minimization Working Group, representing all segments of the electronics industry value chain.

The Waste Minimization Toolkit is a practical capacity-building resource that enables simple and effective facility-level waste stream tracking, reporting, and management. The learning module provides awareness on the benefits of waste minimization best practices and trains supply chain facility personnel on how to use the Waste Tracking Record Tool.

“This joint effort aligns with the RBA's goal to foster collaboration and innovation among its members,” said Holly Evans, Senior Vice President, Environmental Policy and Legal Affairs at the RBA. “We appreciate the leadership shown by the supporting member companies and the engagement of our working group members to ensure that the Toolkit provides value to all RBA members and their suppliers. By sharing knowledge and resources, we aim to elevate industry standards and support industry adoption of circularity and waste minimization strategies.”
